Cigar Making Workshop in Caguas
The Municipal Administration of Caguas and its Department of Cultural Development invite the public to participate in a cigar-making workshop on Saturdays, August 10 and 17, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Manuel Mayón Martínez Room of the Historical Archive, located at the intersection of Padial and Betances streets next to the museum.
The tobacco industry has played a significant role in the economic and social development of Caguas and the region, supporting many local households and sparking organized labor movements on the island. The Herminio Torres Grillo Tobacco Museum, the only museum in Puerto Rico dedicated to the history of tobacco and the craft of cigar making, supports this workshop.
This year’s workshop series includes two three-hour sessions. There is a fee of $20.00 to cover the cost of materials, and space is limited.
Interested individuals can register by emailing Lstorres@caguas.gov.pr or calling the museum at (787) 744-2960, Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
